Taiwan trade delegation forges new Saudi links

Some 200 Saudi businessmen met with the 25-member Taiwanese trade delegation at a local hotel here this week to discuss possible collaboration.
“We consider Saudi Arabia as our biggest market in the region because of its big population and its robust economy,” Joney T. M. Chang, delegation head and managing director of KNS Enterprise Co. Ltd., told Arab News.
The delegation leaves for Jeddah today to also meet with Saudi counterparts.
Representative Jin Jinn Jong of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Riyadh, and Economic Counsellor W. K. Lai visited the delegation on Wednesday morning.
Sylvia Chen, project manager of the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), expressed optimism that the delegation’s visit to Saudi Arabia will result in improved trade ties between the two countries.
The products of the companies comprising the delegation include 03 SPA massager, ozone purifier, air purifier and energy saving device; stretch tension exerciser, shoe helper aid, sock aid, and smart cool car seat cushion; digital signage player, server, and software;car video camera and MP3 players; LED lighting fixture, blower and spot cooler; immersion water heater, room heater and power strip; shaping undergarments, stocks gloves and hats; tilapia fish, milkfish and catfish; light guild plate and LED panel light; medical disposable products and raw materials; blind parts and fabrics; building materials and flooring; busbar pan assembly units and components; metal seat ball valves, floating soft and cryogenic ball valves; among others.
The bilateral trade between the two countries touches $21.1 billion. Taiwan’s import from Saudi Arabia totaled $ 18.1 billion last year, up 7.3 percent from the previous year. Its export, on the other hand, crossed $ 2.4 billion, up 22.53 percent.
Records show that Saudi Arabia is the seventh major trading partner of Taiwan.
