Well known Pakistani Urdu poet Zahoor Islam Jawaid was honored by Aalami Urdu Markaz at a poetry evening.
Jawaid, who has been living in Abu Dhabi for 40 years, was in the Kingdom to perform Umrah. He has taken part in more than 28 international poetry events.
“Poetry is not only a showcase of your inner feelings and thinking, but it is a mixture of all that is going on inside you and around you,” he said.
Another guest poet was Syed Sabihuddin Sabih Rehmani. He is the director of Naat Research Center in Pakistan. He thrilled the audience with his melodious voice.
The program began with the recitation of the holy verses from the Qur’an by Qari Mohammed Asif and a naat by Nawaz Janjua, a local poet.
Ather Nafees Abbasi, president, Aalami Urdu Markaz, welcomed the guests and gave a brief account of the Markaz.
Besides Janjua, local poets who presented their poetry included Mohsin Alvi, Faisal Tufail, Nasir Burney, Zamurrad Khan Saifi, Anwar Ansari, Athar Abbasi, Muhammad Mujahid Syed, Irfan Barabankwi and Nayeem Bazidpuri.
The guests thanked the markaz for organizing such programs to promote and keep alive Urdu poetry.
Abbasi said Aalami Urdu Markaz has always been in the forefront in organizing such events to promote the Urdu language. “We have always endeavored to do our bit in popularizing Urdu,” he said.
Abbasi thanked all patrons of the language and promised to hold many more such events in the coming days.
