With the onset of the summer vacation, Saudi women are wondering if they should leave their children behind. Experts say leaving children behind often cause change in their behavior.
Since children are very impressionable, they are very likely to be influenced by those in whose care and company they are left with.
Upon their return, parents may be surprised to find their children feeling insecure, which can hinder their development since it is imperative for children to grow up with a feeling of safety and security to nurture their self-confidence.
Parents’ frequent absence usually causes kids to develop a sense of fear and insecurity, especially in the first four years of their life.
Lama Abdul Aziz, a teacher, told Arab News, “I will leave my youngest child with my mother and a maid. His presence would be worrying for both my husband and I, and 20 days is not a long time, especially since I have done so before. Anyway, places such as amusement parks are inappropriate for a one-year-old.”
Zainab Safar, a mother of four, said that she had decided to leave her children with her mother but regretted it and returned earlier than scheduled. “Everyone advised me to leave my kids so I could enjoy my vacation and so I did,” she added.
Rabina Afdal said, “My husband travels during the summer and this time, I decided to go with him. I left my kids with my mother for out 10-day trip. Later on, I was blamed by my parents and relatives of being cold hearted!”
Sarah Abdul Hamid refuses to leave her children and explained, “I feel safe and happy when my kids are with me. I cannot enjoy my holidays without them because I have never left my kids under any circumstance. I am surprised anyone can do it.”
