CAIRO: Pilots for national carrier EgyptAir yesterday ended a brief protest after the civil aviation minister promised to meet their demands for better pay, the official MENA news agency reported.
The pilots began a sit-in earlier on Thursday, calling for an increase in salaries and more benefits. The protest disrupted several flights out of Cairo, airport officials said.
Civil Aviation Minister Wael al-Maadawi had gone to the airport for talks with the pilots shortly after they began their strike.
Since the fall of long-time President Hosni Mubarak in 2011, strike action has hit several sectors of an economy already devastated by plummeting tourism revenues and foreign investment.
Rising inflation, fuel shortages and power cuts have added pressure to the population, a quarter of which lives in poverty.
