The police and the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice (Haia) are currently working on identifying the group of teenage boys who had a girl in their car while joyriding here recently. Meanwhile, Baha Police announced that they caught three young men who knifed a youth as he tried to stop them from forcing a girl into their car in Al-Aqeeq, according to reports in local media.
The Asir Haia stated yesterday that it is working on identifying the girl and teenage boys involved in joyriding in the area north of Abha.
Spokesman of Haia, Awad Al-Asmari, said the “focus” is to identify and arrest the culprits. He said that extra patrols have been deployed to counter the illegal and immoral behavior. Videos of the teenagers joyriding in their four-wheel-drive vehicle were posted on YouTube on Sunday. Asir Gov. Prince Faisal bin Khaled ordered the police to arrest the youths, question them and apply the stiffest penalties. The Asir Governorate posted a message on Twitter stating that the police had been ordered to arrest the youngsters.
“The directives were issued by Prince Faisal to security authorities to arrest the joyriders in the Mahala area, north of Abha, shown in the video clips with a girl.” A security source said yesterday that the video clips are currently being examined to identify the perpetrators.
In Baha, the security forces arrested the youths who tried to force a girl into their car, and stabbed a youth who tried to stop them, in the governorate of Al-Aqeeq.
Assistant press spokesman lieutenant Bandar Al-Ghamdi, said that under the orders of Brig. Gen. Misfir bin Safir Al-Khami, the youths were arrested and taken to court. The youths, in their late twenties, confessed to the crime.
