The long queues at the Diplomatic Quarter (DQ) here have disappeared because many workers with travel documents are unsure about whether to stay in the Kingdom or go home.
“Many of the travel document holders waiting for their exit visas are also contemplating whether to correct their status so they can continue working in the Kingdom,” said an envoy from a country supplying workers to the Kingdom.
The envoy said those with travel documents should leave when the Passport Department issues their visas. He said the main reason they wanted to leave in the first place was because they were not making enough money for their families back home.
He said these workers need new skills to get better paying jobs in the Kingdom and other countries.
He said various groups offer free training courses on weekends including on information technology, computer assembly, computer trouble shooting, photography and accounting.
Meanwhile, sources said there are no long lines at the DQ because many workers are no longer seeing the urgency of getting their papers sorted out after the amnesty was extended from July 3 to Nov. 3.
They said workers should continue following up on their documentation because four months was not a long time.
