The Taif Municipality has undertaken a project to develop its main nursery and increase its production capacity to keep up with the rising demand for green surfaces, tree-plantation and establishment of new municipal gardens and picnic spots.
The development of the nursery has also been mandated by the municipality’s plans to renovate its 150 existing gardens, besides beautifying streets and roads with flowering plants and trees, the Saudi Press Agency reported quoting a municipal statement on Friday.
The tree-plantation project also covers areas such as Sale, Airport, Hada, Al-Janoub, Al-Shafa and Hawya, the statement said, adding that the production capacity of the nursery for flowering plants and creepers has also been increased.
The municipality plans to have more than one million seedlings of different varieties of flowering plants annually, the statement added.
Municipal nurseries also produce shade-giving and decorative trees. It also has projects and campaigns in which plants are distributed free of charge with the aim of developing public interest in tree plantation. The municipal experts also instruct people on how to set up home gardens.
The municipality’s tree-planting campaign also includes participation in Taif flower festival and exhibition in which it created a huge carpet-like formation of flowers, the statement said.
