Boy chokes to death on candy

A 3-year-old boy died from suffocation after choking on a piece of candy. He died as he arrived at the hospital in Khaibar, north of Madinah, where resuscitation attempts failed to save him from a heart failure.
His parents brought him to hospital after failing to dislodge the candy that had stuck in the boy’s throat, blocking the respiratory tract.
“The governorate police department received a call from Khaibar General Hospital reporting the death of a child after he was admitted to the emergency unit,” said police spokesman Col. Fahad bin Amer Al-Ghannam.
He said the child’s father, 33, and mother, 29, told the police that they tried to extract the candy when the boy could not breathe after he swallowed it.
The body of the toddler was kept at the hospital’s morgue. The case has been referred to the coroner for further investigation.
