Misconception about Islam

With great interest, I read the article “Misconception about Islam needs be removed” (Aug. 17). It is very important to change the image of Islam in the world. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia needs to take an important and leading role in showing the world the true image of Islam. Terror attacks using the name of a peace-loving religion have sullied its image and earned a bad name for its followers. Muslims are becoming victims everywhere paying the price for the misdeeds of a handful. However, it is equally important for Western countries to impart education about Islam and its values, especially among women and the youth. Meanwhile, Muslim communities should not remain isolated and live in their ghettos in the Western world. They should join the mainstream and follow the law of the country they live in. I am from Berlin and live peacefully with Muslims in our neighborhood. Many things could be done better with good will and mutual respect. I work and live now in the Kingdom and I feel very comfortable and safe here. I have, thanks to my Saudi friends, learned Islam as a peaceful religion and begun to know and love this country. In fact all Muslims should contribute to improving the understanding of Islam in the world. — Bodo Knuth, Riyadh
