Imams cautioned on beggars in mosques

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Call and Guidance has warned imams of mosques not to allow beggars to ask worshippers for money, saying they take advantage of generous Saudis.
Ministry sources said it has called on all imams to inform the police about beggars lurking around mosques.
Inspectors from the ministry have seen many beggars dressed in Saudi traditional wear at mosques telling heart-breaking stories, mostly untrue, to gain sympathy and get money from their victims.
The ministry’s leadership is concerned that beggars may be raising money for outside sources. It said people should hand in their donations at the offices of registered charities.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Abdul Mohsen Al Al-Sheik said the campaign to maintain and clean mosques is continuing, including further training for imams and preachers to boost their performance. He said the campaign was aimed at taking care of the houses of Allah, and highlighting the ministry's awareness programs and services.
The ministry has also begun addressing the problem of encroachers on land earmarked for mosques.
