Hyundai Centennial of Dennis Elmenzo beat Al Naghi 69-51 in 2013 Orient Watch-JBL basketball tournament at Bin Mafouz court on Tahlia Street, Al Andalus District here.
Centennial’s trapping defense proved to be the team’s main weapon as Al Naghi committed back-to-back turnovers. Sarip top-scored with 19 points for Hyundai Centennial and was adjudged as the JBL best player s of the game while Santos had 14 points for Al Naghi.
The tournament major sponsor is Orient Watch-Al Hussaini and Al Yahya Investment Group (Othman Al Hussaini). Giordano Fashions (Ahmedullah), ABS-CBN — The Filipino Channel, Flash Cargo (Arnold Dela Cruz), Saudi Signs (Sam Adora), Al Haddaf Sportswear (Mohamed Bayoumi) and Arab News are co-sponsors.
Almabani of Vic Carreon defeated Mr. Foodstuff 83-72. Both teams played good basketball but Almabani showed better offense in the final quarter. Mr. Foodstuff missed important baskets in the dying seconds. Meting top-scored with 16 points for Almabani and was adjudged as the Orient Watch best player of the game while Castillo scored a conference-high 42 points for Mr. Foodstuff.
Leylati of Jerome Posadas beat Diet Center 70-67. Leylati almost lost the game but a tough defense in the crucial seconds gave it a 3-0 win loss card. Hugo had a career-high of 25 points for Leylati and was adjudged as the Giordano best player of the game while Rudolf Arabia top-scored with 24 points for Diet Center.
Chili’s Restaurant of Robert Del Rosario defeated Jaguar 82-41. Chillis’ caught Jaguar in their off night as Jaguar couldn’t get its offense going. Chilis’ running game was unstoppable in the whole game. Masigan with 14 points for Chillis Restaurant and was adjudged as Saudi Sign best player of the game while Paul led jaguar with 12 points.
Thursday, Mini Cooper of Ronald Reyes defeated Hyundai Genesis 67-54. It was a ding-dong battle up to the 3rd quarter. Genesis started to commit crucial turnovers in the man-to-man defense of Mini Cooper in the final quarter. Natividad scored 29 points for Mini Cooper and was adjudged as the JBL best player of the game while Bulacan top-score with 14 points for Hyundai Genesis.
Fuddruckers of Elmer Delos Santos beat United Naghi 63-62. United Naghi almost won the game after a three point shot by Recayo with 19 seconds remaining. Fuddruckers went to the drawing board for their final offense withs United Naghi leading by 1 point. The ball went to Melendez and a crucial foul was given to United Naghi. Melendez made two charity shots for the win. Makagila top-scored with 16 points but the best player award went to Melendez, while Recayo scored 29 points for United Naghi.
Carrefour of Edilym Dalagan defeated Hanco Maintenance 83-72. Carrefour was steady on defense in the fourth quarter as Hanco missed important jumpers in the dying seconds. Vallejo had 19 points for Carrefour and was adjudged as the JBL Best Player of the game while Naguit had 19 points for Hanco Maintenance.
Saudi Diyar of Jeffrey Esperanza beat Barangay Fame 85-45. Saudi Diyar played good offense in the whole game. Salcedo scored 15 points for Saudi Diyar and was adjudged as the Orient Watch best player of the game while Miramonte had 13 points for Barangay Fame.
