Saudi Arabia confirmed Wednesday that Similac Gain Plus products being sold in the Kingdom were free from clostridium botulinum, a bacteria that could cause botulism.
The Saudi Food & Drug Authority said tests conducted at international labs proved that the bacteria did not contaminate Similac baby milk sold in the Kingdom.
“As a result we allow agent of Abbot company in the Kingdom to market the products with all batch numbers,” SFDA said in a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency.
SFDA had sent samples of various lot numbers of Similac Gain Plus3 products to professional accredited international laboratories, specialized in analyzing clostridium botulinum bacteria to make sure that they are free from the microbe.
The Commerce Ministry and SFDA had ordered stores to take all Similac Gain Plus3 products off shelves on suspicion it was contaminated by the bacteria, as a precautionary measure.
