The Ministry of Education (MoE) has sought the cooperation of private schools in regularly submitting their monthly salary requirements of teachers.
The ministry extends financial support to private schools through the School Support Agreement in collaboration with the Human Resource Development Fund (HRDF).
In a circular sent to private and international schools, Deputy Education Minister Khaled Al-Sabti stressed the importance of private school management abiding by articles stipulated in the School Support Agreement.
Regular submission of salary payment requirements for private school teachers would ensure that the support extended by the ministry is not suspended, he said.
Financial support for schools is estimated at SR70 million per year, disbursed among 3,000 private schools.
Al-Sabti said private schools should bear the responsibility of delayed salary payment to its teachers and stressed the importance of speeding up the registration of new teachers who joined the salary support program.
Private school draft laws stipulate that up to SR2,000 would be given to each Saudi student and that this amount is doubled for children with special needs. This support is given to private schools that apply the curricula issued by the Saudi Ministry of Education. In addition, such schools should have their own buildings.
Private education committees, however, are demanding an increase in financial support because of the increasing number of schools and the diversity of their needs.
