Officials from the Presidency of Meteorology and Environment (PME) have shut down more than 20 factories in Jeddah in a single week for harming the environment.
According to a statement issued Thursday by Abdullah Al-Jazah, president of PME, most of these factories, located in the south of Jeddah, have failed to comply with conditions set by the presidency and have not obtained environmental licenses from the presidency.
Al-Jazah also said that most of these factories and industrial units engage in the recycling oil and iron.
Al-Jazah warned that PME would not tolerate environmental harm and that they would intensify monitoring and patrolling efforts.
He also praised the role of the Makkah governorate in imposing penalties on violators.
Al-Jazah urged members of the public to call 988 to report cases of environmental pollution.
