For the first time, the Riyadh Municipality will hold fireworks displays during the 83rd National Day celebrations on Monday. Excited citizens and expatriates are looking forward to witnessing different dazzling colors lighting up the night sky over the capital.
“I have seen numerous fireworks displays before, but not on the occasion of the Kingdom’s National Day celebration. It was held over the Malaz stadium. It was held for ten minutes, and the spectators were spellbound as the fireworks displays broke into a circle with different dazzling colors. The colors reminded me of a rainbow in the horizon,” a Saudi youth said.
He added that on Monday, he and his parents and siblings will witness fireworks displays again, showing not only happiness over the entertaining spectacle but also love of country and patriotism.
To drum up more support and excitement for the celebration, the municipality has designated five different areas in the city where the fireworks displays will light up the sky –- King Fahd International Stadium, Prince Faisal bin Fahd Stadium, Prince Sultan University, King Abdul Aziz Manakh Park and near the suspension bridge west of Riyadh.
A number of expatriates have also expressed happiness and excitement at the event, telling Arab News that they will definitely watch the fireworks displays because it is not held frequently in the Kingdom.
Others are excited because they will experience watching a fireworks display for the first time.
“I and my colleagues are excited to see the fireworks show on Monday since it is the first time that it will happen here during the Kingdom’s National day celebration,” Jun Hontiveros, a Filipino expatriate, told Arab News.
Another expatriate agreed and said that he and his friends will go to the nearest place where the fireworks display will be held.
“I will go with my friends and watch the fireworks display at the Prince Sultan University since it is the closest to our area,” said Moshref Hossain, a Bangladesh expatriate.
During the last part of the last Ramadan, the municipality also launched fireworks displays in various places of the city and watched by numerous Saudis and expats alike.
This time, the Kingdom hopes to make a good impression once again as they prepare for the fireworks show for the 83rd Saudi National day. The show will begin at 9 p.m. and will last for 15 minutes.
