A local woman, Fatimah Al-Baqqal, was crowned “Miss Ethics” at the 6th Lady of Ethics competition involving 10 finalists at the King Abdullah National Hall in the Eastern Province recently.
Cousins Fatimah and Tuqah Bokhamseen were first and second runners-up respectively at the event attended by 600 women including members of the Shoura Council.
“The evaluation used specific criteria. The panel of judges registered all the details, took notes and later went into a separate and secluded room to deliberate,” said Muna Al-Ghanim, a member of the panel.
Bokhamseen family members were elated because three of their girls reached the final stages. “This is a victory for the whole family because the two runners up are cousins,” said a family member.
Several mothers said they were proud of their daughters even though they were not among the finalists. “But to be among the 10 finalists is an achievement in itself, especially because there were more than 300 contestants in the beginning,” said one mother.
The naming of the queen and the two runners-up was supposed to take place at 10 p.m., but was delayed until just before midnight because the judges had to make some tough decisions. The crowning ceremony included plays entitled “Story of a Homeland” and “Road of Honors.”
Executive director of the event, Khadraa Al-Mubarak, said that planning for the next competition would start soon.
“We’ve received many suggestions to include other provinces in the competition. We are ready to respond and call on charitable societies in the Eastern Province and outside to participate in the seventh contest,” she said.
