Wellness coach and doctor Rayan Karkadan aims to help Saudis reach a healthy and stable life. He started a YouTube show with his colleague Obai Albashir to support the public’s health and named it Mizan (scale).
Karkadan was obese before he began exercising and cutting down on carbs. He started having trouble going up the stairs and tying his own shoelaces. He then decided it was time for a change. He wanted to educate people and spread the word about obesity.
In 2011, when social media picked up, it was the most efficient way to interact with people freely. Twitter was jammed with active people.
The two members of Mizan thought this would be their approach to reach out and spread the word by starting a hashtag on Twitter, inviting anyone to share their random tweets on their eating habits on a daily basis.
One year later, the Mizan team started a YouTube channel as a more convenient way to deliver their message. They posted a video almost every week. The show is about the two members of Mizan taking up the challenge and coaching two young Saudi men who became tired of being overweight.
Many Saudis follow the health gurus and take their tips for a healthy life. Many also ask them for health guidance of what to eat and what to not eat.
Karkadan has almost 52,700 followers on Twitter, and his Keek account has 13,955 followers. On his YouTube channel, entitled MizanHealth, has more than 680 subscriptions and 26,500 views and counting.
