Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) will blend its Lower Zakum and Umm Shaif crude oils into a new export crude called Das crude.
Ali Rashid Al-Jarwan, CEO of Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Company (ADMA-OPCO), said new crude exports were expected to begin in July 2014.
The announcement of the Das crude was made on Tuesday by Al Jarwan and Sultan Al Muhairi, marketing and refining director, ADNOC, at a press conference on the sidelines of the current Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC 2013).
Meanwhile, Prince Andrew, the British Duke of York, urged the global energy community to continue investing in its human capital, in his address on day two of the conference. Prince Andrew highlighted the growing importance of platforms for energy dialogue, and ADIPEC’s unique ability to work across the global energy spectrum. An advocate for a diversified energy mix, much of the Duke of York’s address focused on the importance of investing in the future through the cultivation of human capital.
“I know Abu Dhabi is just as passionate about investing in its young people, as we are in the UK. It is these young people who will take up the challenges of meeting our future energy requirements,” he added.
Abdulla Nasser Al-Suwaidi, director general of ADNOC, said ADNOC would continue to ensure a safe oil and gas supply globally, working toward increasing output to 4.5 million tons by mid-2014.
ADIPEC also distributed its awards during a ceremony at the Emirates Palace. Recognized for their pioneering innovation and a commitment to excellence within the regional energy industry, the winners of this year’s prize included GASCO (ADMA-OPCO and ADGAS), Kuwait Oil Company, Qatar Shell, Total EP UAE, Petroleum Development Oman and Mariam Abdulla Al-Hendi from GASCO. This year’s awards saw tough competition with a total of 292 submissions from 22 countries, representing 79 organizations.
The four-day conference, one of the three largest gas and oil events in the world, was opened by the UAE National Security Adviser Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on Sunday. Over the last three days, experts from around the world discussed opportunities and challenges posed by an evolving energy landscape, in the presence of thousands of energy professionals. The conference will conclude Wednesday.
“What began as a small gathering of petrol engineers in 1984, ended up being the largest oil and gas conference in this region, and among the top three in the world. This year is special to us because from now on ADIPEC is annual,” said Mohammed A. Sahoo Al-Suwaidi, director, gas directorate, ADNOC, and chairman of ADIPEC Conference.
