JEDDAH: Tamer humbled Desert Warriors by 13 runs during the sixth week of the Premier Division MoneyGram Cricket Ke Badsha Twenty20 cricket tournament, organized by the Jeddah Cricket Association.
In other matches of the same division, Hyderabad Green got the better of Ace Travel by 12 runs while ARM continued their winning streak with a comfortable 45-run win over Pakistan Green.
Tamer’s Anwar Khan led from the front with a hard-hitting knock of 85 in a total of 170 for 7. The skipper was supported by Syed Mohammad Afroz who scored 34 runs. None of the other batsmen reached double figures.
Left arm spinner Abdul Quddus 2 for 15 and Khalid 2 for 33 bowled a tidy length and line, which tied the rival batsmen.
Desert Warriors tried to make a fight of it but managed 157 for 7. Jafar (21), Waseem (28), Abdul Quddus (19), skipper Muzammil Riyaz (16), Junaid (15) and Waqas (18) contributed to the total.
Veteran left arm spinner Karam Ali had (2 for 23) and Anwar Khan (2 for 26) bowled a fine spell, which gave Tamer their first win in the league.
In another exciting match, Hyderabad Green batted first and put up 227 for 7 against Ace Travel. Amir Wahla scored a quick-fire 64 and Faisal flogged the bowlers with a scintillating knock of 51 off 21 balls.
Amir Rasheed (35) and Usman (23) later propped up the innings. Atta Ur Rahman (3 for 43) and Haroon Abdullah (2 for 36) were the wicket takers.
Adnan led the Travelmen’s fightback with a solid 66 runs off balls. Jawed Ahmed (31), Arsalan 37 and Sohail 39 gave their team a hope but were eventually restricted to 215 for 7. Zaheer’s 2 for 41, a wicket each by Amir Makki and Burhan enabled Hyderabad Green to emerge victorious.
ARM continued their unbeaten streak as they put up 184 for 8 against Pak Green. Inform opening batsman Tabraiz continued his good show and scored 59 runs while partner lanky Athar Ali (20) and Sami Khan 36 chipped in with useful contributions. Pakistan Green skipper Mohammad Zahid took (3 for 39) and Adnan had (2 for 44).
In reply Pak Green batsmen were in a hurry to score quickly and finish the game but wickets tumbled like 9 pins.
Mohammed Shahzad (22), Amer Shehzad (32) and Rizwan (21 n.o.) attacked the rival bowlers, which was not good enough. ARM bowled sensibly, attacked the batsmen backed by superb fielding, which enabled them to pick up wickets at regular intervals. Young pacer Sadique Merchant bowled a tight line and length and was rewarded with 3 for 19.
The combined spin of Zeeshan (3 for 31) and Sami (2 for 22) did the rest to bowl out Pak Green for 139 after 17 overs. ARM raced to their 5th consecutive win and became the first team to qualify for the semifinals with 2 more matches left.
Ahsan, Irfan hit tons
In the Division I, Morning league, KAIA’s Ahsan Masood and Iran of Saliheen scored tons against Pak Young and Butt Sports respectively.
In the three matches played, Al Khulais beat the energetic Al Boroj by 30 runs, Young Cricketers of KAIA got through luck less Pak Young cricketers by 27 runs while spirited Butt Sports routed Saliheen by 78 runs.
