The second Riyadh Triathletes event of the season was Biathlon No. 2, which entailed a 400m swim followed by a 4km run.
Calm yet hot conditions at the Riyadh Village Compound saw an excellent venue with a long pool and flat run course. The holiday season saw a respectable but reduced field of 53 athletes taking part which included 8 junior participants completing various distances up to the full event.
Local hero Mo Foustuk stormed to a 2 minute victory, including the fastest run split of 14m 29s. Kris Ahlin pulled back seven places on the run to claim second overall and first in the Veterans category, we know he can go even faster! An impressive swim time of 5m 15s gave Phoebe Lloyd Evans the quickest swim split, first female junior and third place overall. Other category winners included; Kate Scott (Female open), Vinnie Gillespie (Male junior), Soledad Torre Turton (female veteran), Anne Morrissey (Female Master), Kelvin Bowers (Male Master), Paul McParland (Male senior).
Once again a great crowd of spectators gave vocal encouragement to all participants including a number of newcomers. Organizers congratulated all who took part and completed their chosen distance and reminded any potential participants do not have to be a highly tuned athlete to take part events.
Set for next weekend is the first duathlon event of the season (Run 3km – Bike 10km – Run 2km), where the dynamics of those cyclists among the participants may well show who has been training hard and could be moving up the leader board.
Riyadh Triathletes would like to thank the main sponsors Airbus Defence and Space, and Carrefour @5 Le Mall for their ongoing support this season. The triathlon season includes three types of event namely biathlon (swim-run), duathlon (run-bike-run) and triathlon (swim-bike-run).
