Border Guards in Dhahran’s Southern Sector foiled an attempt to smuggle 28 Kalashnikov rifles and 187 ammunition magazines into the Kingdom, Border Guards spokesperson Gen. Abdullah Al-Homrani said, adding that the Border Guards patrol spotted and intercepted the smugglers who were forced to drop their haul and flee back into Yemeni territories.
In a related incident, Al-Homrani said that the Border Guards had prevented another group of smugglers in a different location from smuggling 18 rifles and 78 kilos of qat into the country.
“The Border Guards exchanged gunfire with the smugglers and succeeded in pushing them back across the border,” he said adding that the smugglers, managed to escape taking advantage of the mountainous terrain leaving their loads behind.
