JEDDAH: With 12 teams in the fold so far, the longest running bowling league in town got off the ground recently at the Sultanah Mall’s Bowling City here.
Dubbed FTBJ-ICBL 39th Conference the five-man team Friday afternoon league event will run for 21 weeks and end on March 30 next year.
Under the tournament format teams play points system elimination round for 18 weeks. The positioning round takes places on the 19th week with the top three finishers waiting for the championship round matches where they will be joined by four teams to emerge from the semifinal round among the remaining teams to miss the outright places for the stepladder finals.
The first match in the seven-team stepladder finals will feature the team Nos. 4, 5, 6 and 7 in a two-game series with handicap knockout with the winner to play the No. 3 team for the right to meet the No. 2 finalist and so on. The No. 1 will have a twice to beat edge against the challenger in the championship match.
The Inter Company Bowling League is sponsored by TSI (The Synergy International), distributors of Harvest Coconut Water juice drink, under the auspices of Filipino Tenpin Bowlers of Jeddah. The sponsorhip agreement was approved by TSI CEO Ahmad Imran and facilitated by Marketing Manager Raju Nair.
The teams have yet to complete their games and results to determine the first week’s top team and individual performances still be to be finalized, according to organizers. The 12 teams entered are: FGS Bowlers, JP Gilas IV, Ekis Reload, The Synergy International, Crime Buster, Cash Pinas-Fawri, Bowling City, Dabarkads, Jeraisah, Lance & 3rdy, Lyn Angel and Star Market.
