Roshn announces flagship Riyadh community with 30,000 homes

Roshn, Saudi Arabia’s national community developer, has announced its highly anticipated Riyadh community, spread across 20 million square meters and consisting of more than 30,000 homes. It is the first community to be announced by Roshn as part of a 10-year mandate to develop communities across the Kingdom.

The community is located close to the capital’s main attractions, key highways and transportation links, with mosques, shops, cafes, parks, schools, and leisure and entertainment facilities. The architectural design of the community has been carefully considered to reflect the best of modern living whilst celebrating Saudi Arabia’s rich culture and heritage. The communities will provide homes to meet the needs of Saudis, offering modern living within a traditional setting.

David Grover, group chief executive officer at Roshn, said: “The announcement of the Riyadh community represents the initial step in the realization of our vision to become the most trusted community developer in Saudi Arabia. We are deeply committed to contributing to Vision 2030’s plans to increase the rate of home ownership in the country to 70 percent, whilst delivering high-quality homes and excellent amenities to the Saudi people.”

Off-plan homes will be available for sale during the first half of 2021.

Roshn was launched earlier this year by the Public Investment Fund (PIF) to deliver high-quality residential neighborhoods to Saudi nationals. The company is committed to actively supporting Vision 2030’s plans to increase the rate of home ownership to 70 percent. Roshn’s mandate is to develop large-scale modern and integrated communities in nine cities across four regions in the country. The communities will advance the nation’s construction and infrastructure sectors through strategic partnerships with local organizations, knowledge-transfer with world-leading entities, and the sourcing of local building materials.

Roshn aims to play an integral role in the delivery of PIF’s Saudi Real Estate and Infrastructure Development Investment Strategy whilst acting as an important catalyst for economic diversification. The communities will also make notable contributions to the GDP of Saudi Arabia and lead to significant job creation for Saudi nationals.

The LuLu Group in Saudi Arabia has become the first retailer to support the Saudi Ministry of Culture’s efforts to preserve, promote and celebrate the history and aesthetics of Arabic calligraphy in the Year of Arabic Calligraphy 2021 — a campaign run by the ministry.

The 22 LuLu Hypermarkets across the Kingdom will soon start using distinctive Arabic calligraphic artwork on all point-of-sale materials, such as paper bags, shopping bags and reusable bags.
Launching the Year of Arabic Calligraphy in 2020 and extending it to 2021, the Saudi ministry aims at turning the spotlight on the beauty of Arabic calligraphy, which reflects the historic heritage and richness of the Arabic culture, as well as positioning the Kingdom as its incubator, sponsor and supporter, unifying efforts that seek to preserve and protect it from its extinction. LuLu’s use of the calligraphic art in its packaging material will lend a contemporary touch to the art form and show its adaptability and practical utilitarian beauty.

LuLu’s initiative to support the ministry comes as part of the group’s commitment to promoting local culture and community initiatives.

“LuLu is honored to support such a cause that promotes the beauty and inspiring cultural heritage of the Arab world,” said Shehim Mohammed, director of LuLu Hypermarkets Saudi Arabia. “During the year of Arabic Calligraphy 2021, we pledge to work closely with the Saudi Ministry of Culture and bring alive the wonder of Arabic calligraphy, especially in a modern context for the younger generation.”

Saudi citizen receives LG Righteous Person Award for heroic act

A Saudi citizen has been recognized by LG Electronics for his valiant efforts after heroically protecting his community. Mohammad Al-Alit, residing in Dammam city with his family of six, works as the director of the department of hygiene and markets in the municipality. On an early June morning, Al-Alit noticed smoke emerging from a car that was parked among five other cars in front of an apartment building. The fire immediately caught on the shade that was above the cars. He promptly thought of possible options to approach the situation: (1) Evacuate the apartment building and risk tenants’ lives; (2) call the fire department and wait until they arrive or alternatively (3) risk his life and resolve the issue on his own.

Al-Alit chose the heroic and utilitarian act, and saved the apartment building tenants by risking his own life. He immediately drove the burning car away which exploded moments later. His heroic efforts saved the lives of the residents.

“I developed a brave heart through my family. My father influenced and taught me how to be courageous. My father followed this principle: ‘If you see any issue that you can resolve, immediately take action and resolve it, even if it means risking your own life.’ Although June 1 was the most terrifying day for me, I am very happy and thankful to God that everyone was ok. Heroism is all about acting on the spot and thinking of others rather than of personal interests and achievement. Heroism starts from the community. It’s the humanitarian effort that shows concern for each other and the willingness to take action in the face of challenges,” said Al-Alit.

Al-Alit was recognized for his efforts by LG. LG has long aimed to create values needed by society through constant interaction with the communities it operates in. One of those cultivations is to reward people who are dedicated to social justice through their own willingness to spread positive influence. This recognition is known as the LG Righteous Person Award. The award was created in 2015 and has been recognizing righteous citizens around the world and upholding them as role models of society and more.

The award has come to Saudi Arabia for the first time. LG evaluated a number of individuals who most matched with LG’s social contribution criteria before zeroing in on Al-Alit.

“I am humbled to be recognized by LG for this and hope my story inspires others to care for their communities,” he said.

Yeon-Wook Jeong of LG Electronics said: “The LG Righteous Person Award would continue to develop and expand its responsibilities as a social enterprise.”
