ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s hockey team defeated Oman 1-0 on Saturday, in a match held in Jakarta, Indonesia, ahead of the Asia Cup 2022.
Hockey is the national sport of cricket-crazy Pakistan, which has a record four championships in Hockey World Cup in 1971, 1978, 1982, 1994.
The Asia Cup will be played in Jakarta from May 23 to June 1. Hosts Indonesia will be playing in the tournament for the first time.
Pakistan are placed in Pool A alongside arch-rivals India, Indonesia and Japan. Pool B comprises Bangladesh, Oman, Korea and Malaysia.
“Just before the Asia Hockey Cup 2022, Pak Hockey Team played its 2nd warm up match against Team Oman, & won it with 1-0,” Pakistan Hockey Federation tweeted.
The goal was scored by Rizwan Ali.
Pakistan, who lost their first warm-up fixture to Korea, will take on arch-rivals India on May 23.
India, which won the last Asia Cup in Dhaka, Bangladesh, in 2017, will be defending the title.
