ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari will attend the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Switzerland from May 23 to May 26, the Pakistani foreign office said on Sunday, where he would share Pakistan's perspective on economic and social impacts of evolving geopolitical developments.
The World Economic Forum annually brings together political and business leaders as well as representatives of international organizations, civil society and youth from across the world to deliberate upon and identify pathways to overcome economic, social and environmental challenges.
This year the forum is being organized under the theme, “History at a Turning Point: Government Policies and Business Strategies.”
"The Foreign Minister will share Pakistan’s perspective on the economic and social impacts of the evolving geopolitical developments as well as the challenges arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, food and energy security, and climate change," the Pakistani foreign office said in a statement.
"The Foreign Minister will also meet his counterparts attending the annual meeting and interact with the media."
FM Bhutto-Zardari will be attending the event in Davos on the invitation of the WEF president. He will be accompanied by the Pakistan's State Minister for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar.
This year's meeting, which is happening in the spring rather than its usual January slot, marks the return of WEF to an in-person conference as the pandemic forced it to go virtual since 2020.
It will bring together about 2,500 leaders and experts from around the world, including more than 50 heads of state and government, more than 1,250 leaders from the private sector and nearly 100 global innovators and technology pioneers.
Against a backdrop of the global pandemic, the Russian invasion of Ukraine and geo-economic challenges, the meeting convenes at a strategic point where public figures and global leaders will meet to reconnect, exchange insights, gain fresh perspectives and advance solutions.
