DAMMAM, 3 April — Importers of meat products to the Kingdom have said that they are using neighboring Arab countries as transit points to sidestep obstacles in direct shipment from some exporting countries. The businessmen expressed their views at a meeting of cattle and meat importers in the Eastern Province at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry here.

The participants in the meeting, which was held to discuss the market situation in the aftermath of foot-and-mouth disease in exporting countries, backed collective purchase of meat and cattle from safe sources. This was viewed as the best strategy to guarantee the safety of imported meat and to protect the domestic market.

The meeting commended the cooperation of quality control laboratories in clearing the shipments. (SPA)
