RIYADH, 16 June — Muhammad Al-Humaidhy, director of girls’ education in the Riyadh region, yesterday condemned the recent attack on a female school director in Aziziya in southern Riyadh by a citizen and said the authorities would take punitive action against the man and his wife.

The 30-year-old Saudi and his wife stormed into the director’s office last Monday and assaulted her in front of the school staff, Okaz Arabic newspaper said in a report yesterday. The couple were provoked by the school official’s refusal to admit their daughter because no seats were available.

“There was some verbal exchange between the director and the child’s mother. The man became furious when his wife told him that the school official had attacked her,” the paper said.

School authorities identified the man who fled the scene after the incident from a paper dropped off his daughter’s file.  Authorities are questioning the school’s gatekeeper for letting in the man into the school campus.

Al-Humaidhy said the behavior of the parent was totally unbecoming of a responsibile citizen.

Meanwhile, Saudi student at Mujahed Intermediate School in the Rabwa district in Riyadh was severely punished by his teachers for a minor reason, Al-Jarizah newspaper reported yesterday.

The paper said Abdullah Al-Masoud, the class teacher, beat the boy and kicked him in front of his classmates.

The boy complained to the school undersecretary, Abdullah Al-Jerwan, who, instead of investigating the matter, beat the student using an electric cable, the paper added.
