CAIRO: Following the deadly explosion of a fuel truck in the Libyan city of Bint Bayya, Egypt sent a military plane to evacuate the injured to a military hospital in Cairo.

An Egyptian military spokesman said this is an act of solidarity with the Libyan people. One of the hospital’s doctors said the condition of the injured is stable.

A truck carrying diesel fuel in southern Libya caught fire, killing at least nine people and injuring 76. The truck was involved in a traffic accident and overturned.

According to Libyan reports, after the truck overturned but before it caught fire, some people approached it to try to take fuel from the tank, not realizing the gravity of the situation.
