JEDDAH, 19 October — The licensure examinations for Filipino civil, electrical and mechanical engineers began yesterday in Riyadh, with 17 electrical engineering graduates taking the test.
A team from the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) administered the test a few hours after their arrival from Manila, according to Institute of Integrated Engineers of the Phils. Inc. (IIEE) chapter in Jeddah, which is spearheading this year’s event.
The examiners include PRC Commissioner Alfonso Abad as the team leader; Rodolfo R. Penalosa, chairman of the Board of Electrical Engineering (BEE); Antonio C. Coronel and Jose B. Abinoja, both members of the BEE; Rizal Albero Nolido, a member of the Civil Engineering Board; Amy T. Empaynado, licensure director of the PRC; and Fe M. Barrientos, past national president of the IIEE.
A news release issued by Antonio P. Acuavera and Roel L. Pestaño, president and immediate past president, respectively, of the IIEE chapter in the Western Region, said the examiners will conduct the second stage of the exams in Jeddah on Oct. 21.
A total of 105 examinees will participate in the tests to be held at the Hotel Sofitel, said the news release.
Of the number, 30 are electrical engineers, 20 civil engineers, and 55 mechanical engineers.
The last stage of exams will be in Alkhobar on Oct.25 to 28, with 36 electrical and 28mechanical engineers participating.
This is the first time that the licensure test for the three major engineering fields are being held simultaneously.
The groups responsible for bringing the examinations to the Kingdom are the IIEE, which has chapters in Jeddah, Riyadh and Alkhobar; the Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers, which has chapters in Alkhobar and Jeddah; and the Association of Filipino Civil Engineers (AFCE-KSA).
