JEDDAH, 22 January — Favorites Al-Ittihad sustained their campaign for the covetous King Fahd Cup yesterday garnering maximum points against Al-Najma 3-2 in a thrilling encounter in Unaizah.
Muhammad Amin, Hamza Idris and Khamees Al-Zahrani scored for Al-Ittihad while Ahmad Al-Harbi secured the brace for Al-Najma.
The victory kept Al-Ittihad within touch of leaders Al-Hilal (33 points) and Al-Ahli (31) by taking them to 30 points in the tournament’s 16th week yesterday.
In Madinah, Al-Ansar clinched a draw with Al-Ittifak (2-2) in a fast-paced clash that left the teams sharing honors, points and goals. Hamza Saleh scored two goals for Al-Ansar while Turki Al-Mosailekh and Manget for Al-Ittifak.
Hilal continued their hold on the top spot by beating Shabab 2-1 in a Riyadh derby. Hassan Al-Ali and Edmilson scored for Al-Hilal and Fahd Al-Sibae reduced the margin.
Al-Ahli stayed in second spot with a 2-0 verdict over Al-Shoala in another match held in Alkharj. Obaid Al-Dosary scored the winning goals for his team.
