‘Proper use of resources key to development’

DHAHRAN, 10 February — Eastern Province Governor Prince Muhammad ibn Fahd opened at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals here yesterday a symposium and exhibition on petroleum and industrial development in the Kingdom during the past two decades.

The symposium and exhibition is being organized by KFUPM to mark 20 years of King Fahd’s reign.

The governor in his inaugural speech said the discovery of oil gave a new dimension to the growth and development of the country.

He added that the country’s adherence to Islam and proper use of natural resources such as petroleum took the country on a path of extraordinary development.

Paying tribute to the achievements of King Fahd during his 20 years on the Saudi throne, Dr. Abdul Aziz Al-Dukhayyil, the rector of KFUPM, said that the university had the honor to bear the name of the "pioneer of education in Saudi Arabia."

King Fahd served as the Kingdom’s first education minister.

He said the organization of the event comes as token of gratitude and respect to King Fahd for his care and attention toward the development of the country.
