JEDDAH, 8 March — Admirers of Urdu poet G.M. Ahmad Khwamkhwah met here recently to discuss his contribution to the world of poetry. Speakers appreciated the poet’s endeavors in popularizing the reformative accent of Urdu poetry through a difficult genre. Khwamkhwah, the guest poet, recited his new and old poems. In his couplets and compositions, he laid emphasis on some serious social, cultural and political issues, and urged the audience to ponder over the harsh realities of life. Saudi literary figure Abdul Karim Yahya Munshi presented the poet a replica of the door of the Ka’aba. Muhammad Tariq Ghazi in his address traced the history of Urdu poetry and discussed its humorous contents. Dr. Syed Ali Mahmood of King Abdul Aziz University said in his address that the contribution of Khwamkhwah to satire and humor was substantial. Others commending the poet’s contribution included Aleem Khan Falki, Nayeem Jawed, Shakil Sultan, Syed Jamalullah Qadri, Siadat Ali Khan, Mir Nizam Ali Khan, M.A. Majeed and Sultan Mazharuddin. Poet Salman Ghazi, who arrived from Bombay for performing Haj, presented a poem on the Muslim psyche after the demolition of the Babri Mosque. Sharief Aslam, president of Zinda Dilan-e-Jeddah conducted the meeting.
