RIYADH, 19 April — R. Semilla and J. Berdon scored 20 points each and powered the Samama East & West Cargo to victory against Al Shadaif team in the opening game of the Filipino Basketball League played at the Eight Contracting Compound, Exit 12.
Coach A. Espiritu banks on its big guys Santiago and Berdon who made a tremendous effort to convert low post opportunities. Al Shadaif put up a big defensive stand in the first quarter by dominating the board, but the team lack the consistency to convert turnovers. First quarter ended 19 points all. At the outset of the second quarter coach Esperitu change strategy and resorted to a running game that gave them a 13-point advantage, 46-33, at the half.
Tough defense limited the Al Shadaif team to five points during the third while J. Berdon unleashes 2 triple pointers finishing with 71-39, advantage for the Samama team. O. Penaverde struggled to win a come back by putting in 8 points of his 12-point output in the fourth quarter but Samama team is just so strong to contain. The game finished with a convincing victory 88-61 for Samama east and West Cargo team.
