Two Saudis among four killed in Jordan accident: Two Saudi nationals were killed yesterday when a truck tire burst sending the vehicle crashing into a nearby car in the south of Jordan, police sources said. An Egyptian and a Jordanian also died in the accident near the southern town of Ma’an, they said. Two other people, who were not immediately identified, were injured. The victims were identified as a Saudi man and woman who were driving a Saudi-registered vehicle, while the other two dead were the Jordanian driver of the truck and an Egyptian passenger, the sources added.
Afghan dies in car accident: An Afghan national was killed when the car he was traveling in collided with a truck on the International Road in Al-Qurayyat last Tuesday. The man died after being trapped under the overturned car while his companion escaped with serious injuries. He was admitted to the Toraif hospital.
Lid off mystery death: Dammam police recently unraveled the mystery surrounding the dead body of an elderly Arab expatriate found 21 months ago in a well in Al-Ahsa in the Eastern Province. Months of investigations finally led the police to a 13-year-old boy who had killed him by mistake. The boy said he pushed the elderly man, who happened to be blocking his way, causing his fall into a well and eventual drowning before anyone could rescue him. The boy fled the village fearing that he would be held responsible for the death.
Cop knocked off his bike: A traffic policeman was injured when he was knocked down from his motorbike by a van while he was doing his duty in southern Taif. He was admitted to King Faisal Hospital. Several such accidents causing injury to traffic officials were reported in the last few months from southern Taif.
Youth held for harassing girls: Jeddah police recently arrested a youth disguised as an official of the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice for harassing girls in the neighborhood of a girls’ school in the city. Suspicion about his conduct was aroused and he was caught when the youth chased a girl until she entered her house. Her father, who was inside the house, telephoned police who arrived on the spot and arrested the man.
Hashish haul at border crossing: Customs officials at the northern border crossing of Hodaitha seized 19 kilos of hashish and 38,000 Captagon tablets from a man coming to the Kingdom from Syria by a public transport bus, Abdullah Al-Atawi, customs director at Hodaitha said. Hundreds of Captagon tablets were also found hidden in the shoes of a traveler a few days ago at the same border crossing.
35 overstayers arrested: Police in Turba in the Makkah Province arrested 35 foreigners who overstayed their visas. They were working as shop assistants, farmhands and common laborers. They were handed over to the Passport Department for further action including deportation, head of the Abu Rakah police station said.
