JEDDAH, 15 November 2002 — The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has undertaken the scheme for issuance of national identity card for overseas Pakistanis (NICOP). All non-resident Pakistanis (NRPs), including emigrants and residents, who have lived abroad for a period exceeding six months are entitled to NICOP.

NICOP will entitle the holder to avail certain facilities such as getting new computerized national identity card in Urdu free of cost on return from abroad.

They will also be entitled to membership of Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF). The fee for NICOP is $ 25 or SR94 per card.

A card issued to a non-resident Pakistani will remain valid for three years or multiple thereof up to maximum of 15 years based on the fee paid by the applicant. The documents required to be submitted with the application form include four latest photographs, photocopies of the national identity card, passport and marriage certificate.

Application forms and other necessary information will be available with the Consulate General of Pakistan, Jeddah, from Nov. 17. Applicants may visit the consulate general between 0900 hours and 1200 hours on any working day to obtain forms.

A large number of Pakistanis living overseas have started remitting money to their country through banking channels which has contributed to the increase in foreign exchange reserves.
