DOHA, 30 January 2003— Al-Hilal of Saudi Arabia gained their second precious three points after defeating Al-Oroobah of Oman 2-1 in the 20th GCC Soccer Championship last night..
Mohammad Al-Mubarak surprised Hilal when he scored for Al-Oroobah in the third minute of the first half. He set on his own new record as a fastest goal in this championship.
But never-say-die Al-Hilal fought back and gained a penalty which Mohammad Al-Shalhoub converted easily just seven minutes in the injury time.
Four minutes later, Saudi superstar Nawaf Al-Timmiyat scored Hilal’s second goal by a brilliant shot on the left side of the Oroobah’s keeper.
In another match, Kuwaiti outfit Al-Arabi gained their first three points after staging a second-half fightback with 2-1 victory against Al-Muharraq of Bahrain.
Al-Muharraq stunned Al-Arabi scoring first in the 29th minute of the first half.
Malik Al-Gallaf scored the equalizer in the 30th minute when he scored a wonderful backward goal. But Khalid Abdulqados scored the second for Al-Arabi by a nice header just three minutes in injury time.
With this result, Al-Arabi are second in the tally with three points after Al-Hilal who have six points. Al-Oroobah and Al-Muharraq are sharing the third spot while Qatar stay last.
