RIYADH, 23 May 2003 — NGPP’s Bandal scored season’s high 31 points and this combined with 13 points of Bertes enabled his team gain a 71-59 victory against Sea Shell team and giving them a 1-win, 1-loss card, in the Filipino Community Basketball League (FCBL) held at eight contracting compound, Exit 12 here.
Soriano of Sea Shell had a great start putting in back-to-back baskets and scored 11 points. Tumambing sank a triple pointer helping the team to pull its lead to 10 points, 11-21 at the end of the first quarter.
Coach Ibanez made some adjustment in their defensive stance to cope with the running game of the Sea Shells team in the second quarter.
Bandal made some great offense by scoring 11 points in the outset of the second quarter. Payot and Lisao back him up with 7 and 6 points respectively, leading the team into a dead lock 26 all half way in the second quarter. The defensive adjustment of NGPP took its toll on the Sea Shell limiting them 9 point against 21 of NGPP in the second quarter.
The third and the fourth quarter was characterized by the struggle of Sea Shell to gain back the lead but the NGPP’s offense was such that it never relented in offense with Bandal and Bertes taking the lead.
KKIA Jets beat Luzviminda 69-53 in the other game of the day. Manigbas, Hernaez and Villatema were fielded by Coach Herrera against Alforque, Dilao and Constantino of KKIA. The game was a match of power and mobility.
KKIA had an one-point advantage,12-13, thru the charity conversion of N. Alforque at the end of the first quarter and went on to advance the lead to 6 points, 24-30, at the end of the second quarter.
Luzviminda poured in 16 points in the third quarter against 18 for the KKIA Jets. KKIA had an 8 points advantage at the end of the third and 16 points at the end of the fourth quarter giving them a lopsided 69-53 victory at end of the game.
