Talks Only Way to Settle Kashmir Row, Says Saud

JEDDAH, 15 June 2003 — Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal has said that dialogue is the only way to resolve all disputes between India and Pakistan.

In an exclusive interview to the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), Prince Saud said President Pervez Musharraf and Crown Prince Abdullah, deputy premier and commander of the National Guard, during their recent meeting discussed India-Pakistan relations and the measures taken to defuse tension.

He said the talks were indicative of the close relations the two countries enjoy. The two countries share views on issues confronting the region and want solution to the problems of the Ummah.

Prince Saud said President Musharraf and the Crown Prince also discussed fight against terrorism and the crisis in the Middle East. They also deliberated on the role the two countries can play in the re-construction of Iraq.

In a statement on his return to Islamabad after his visit to the Kingdom, President Musharraf said he had very useful discussion with the Saudi leadership.

He said his visit would contribute to the existing excellent relations between the two countries.

The president said he greatly appreciated the Kingdom’s considerable economic support to his country over the years.
