JEDDAH, 5 July 2003 — More than 200,000 children, Saudis and expats, are competing in a drawing and painting contest. Total prizes for the competition amount to SR1 million.

Bassam Koz, director of program development at Signal 2, the organizers, said the main goal was to discover children’s artistic talents.

The company printed 1.5 million forms distributed to 15 marketing centers in Riyadh and Jeddah. Prizes range between SR300 and SR100,000.

Koz said that the idea was for children to do something useful this summer and show them the importance of engaging in social activities. Already 200,000 paintings have been received. One of the winners, seven-year-old Raad Al-Boji, won a Hyundai valued at SR100,000.

The event is being organized for the eighth time. The total number of children who have participated in the events is more than half a million.

Participants must be between five and 16 years of age.
