Pakistan to Buy Eight Boeing 777s

ISLAMABAD, 22 March 2004 — Pakistan will buy eight new Boeing 777 family aircraft as the Planning Commission takes up in a Central Development Working Party (CDWP) meeting tomorrow 21 projects worth 119.51 billion rupees including the Boeing deal to approve the projects or recommend them for ECNEC’s (Executive Committee of National Economic Council) approval. The aircraft deal is worth 105.95 billion rupees.

The CDWP has the mandate to approve projects not exceeding 200 million rupees and recommends project above that sum to ECNEC for approve.

According to official sources, the CDWP meeting would take up two projects worth 106.62 billion rupees in telecom and communication and recommend them to ECNEC for approval. The projects are the purchase of eight new Boeing 777s and expansion and of telecommunication facilities.
