ISLAMABAD: Pakistani security forces on Tuesday carried out an intelligence-based operation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Dera Ismail Khan district, the military’s media wing, ISPR, said in a statement, killing on militant after intense exchange of fire.

The region has experienced a significant surge in militant activities, highlighted by a December suicide truck attack that resulted in the deaths of 23 Pakistani soldiers, marking it as one of the most lethal attacks on the army in recent years.

Prior to that, two policemen were killed and three injured after an oil and gas company working with Chinese nationals in the area was targeted by militants.

The ISPR said that a militant, Muhammad Sohail, was killed after the IBO led to intense fighting with a band of militants in Dera Ismail Khan.

“The killed terrorist remained actively involved in numerous terrorist activities against the law enforcement agencies as well as target killings of innocent civilians,” the ISPR said.

“Sanitization operation is being conducted to wipe out any other terrorist found in the area,” it continued.

The statement added the operation was applauded by locals who expressed their full support to deal with the problem of militancy.
