JEDDAH, 30 April 2004 — Air-India is planning to start a regular bus service for its passengers based in Makkah, Madinah and Taif. It also hopes to introduce its fifth regular flight to Jeddah from Calicut in its winter schedule.
“We operated buses on a trial basis to and from Madinah for our passengers over a three-month period and have found them to be feasible, so we shall be going ahead with a regular bus service soon,” said S.M. Mazharullah, Air India’s outgoing manager for the Western Province. He was speaking at an awards function to honor the airline’s passenger and cargo agents yesterday.
Air-India, which operates 31 weekly flights to the Kingdom — 14 of them to Jeddah — is now strictly implementing the requirement of the local airport authorities that no single baggage item should exceed 32 kg. Any piece of baggage in excess of 32 kg will now have to be packed separately.
