Serna and Dela Cruz Lead Team ‘A’ to Impressive Win

DAMMAM, 14 May 2004 — In a spine-tingling tennis encounter on the last leg of the round robin match, Team "A" Hermie Serna and Demmie Dela Cruz shocked Team "C" pair of Efren Roman and Armando Mina with a dramatic 10-8 win.

The win propelled the team to garner the highest number of cumulative points at 99 to finally win the highly coveted Championship Trophy in the Saudi Catering and Friends Team Tennis competition.

In a one-sided flight 2 singles match, the spectacular performance of Team "A" Dondon Ambalong upset the heavy top-spinner Mar Lucas 10-3 of Team "C". The winning team were composed of Dondon Ambalong, Hermie Serna (team captain), Max DeGuzman, Demie Dela Cruz, Meong Nakpil, and Emil De Dios.

Falling short by just 2 points, the superb efforts of Team "C", who chalked up 97 points, earned them the 1st runner-up title. Mar Lucanas, Kennedy Pacubas, Armando Mina, Efren Roman (team captain), Ric Cellona, and Willy Basilio powered the Team "C".

Team "B" took the 2nd runner-up honors having garnered 96 points. The team comprised of Danny Rabago (Team Captain), Archie Tim Cabahug, Omar Quilino, Manny Donna, Dindo Latonio, and Benny Sulpico.

Team "D" spearheaded by Alex Navarro, Ramil Velasco, Dany Paring, Sanny Orcalles, Rommel Aguiluz, and Danny Senil failed to sustain their final game against Team "B" achieving 81 cumulative points.

Meanwhile, in the flight 6 beginner's tournament, Rodrigo Celona capped the championship crown when Jimmy Donna failed to show up due to injury during the final match.

Awarding ceremony followed immediately after the last match with the champion and runner-up receiving crystal trophies sponsored by Saudi Catering and ABICO represented by Fred Verba.

The 3 weeks event was organized by the technical committee of Efren Roman, Danny Rabago, Ric Cellona, Armando Mina and Hermie Serna.
