DAMASCUS, 26 July 2004 — Syria and Iraq signed an oil cooperation and barter accord during a visit to Damascus by interim Prime Minister Iyad Allawi, the government daily Tishrin reported yesterday. Under the accord, signed by Syrian Oil Minister Ibrahim Haddad and his Iraqi counterpart Thamer Ghadban, Syria is to supply kerosene, benzine and liquefied gas in exchange for Iraqi crude, it said. Yesterday, Allawi traveled on to Beirut.
