BHOPAL, 6 September 2004 — The Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee has filed a police complaint regarding violation of the national flag code by former state Chief Minister Uma Bharati. The party cited two instances of violation by Bharati. Bharati is in judicial custody in Hubli in Karnataka state till Tuesday in a 1994 case for hoisting the national flag at the disputed Idgah Maidan in Hubli, triggering a deadly communal riot.
