HYDERABAD, 4 January 2005 — Andhra Pradesh is poised to become the first state in the country to establish a broadband network at an outlay of four billion rupees to provide connectivity to all the villages within the next two years. The state Cabinet approved the proposal for setting up the AP Broadband Network at its meeting yesterday.
Briefing newsmen, Minister for Information and Public Relations Mohammed Ali Shabbir said that the AP Broadband Network would be established with private participation. The network will have optic fiber connectivity right up to the village level.
The network will provide broadband services to all the 40,000 government offices in the state. This will enable all the government departments to deliver convenient citizen services through eSeva centers, Rajiv Internet Village kiosks and web-based online services.
