JEDDAH, 16 February 2005 — Al-Qadiseya of Alkhobar beat Al-Riyadh of Riyadh 3-1 at the start of the Crown Prince Cup soccer tournament played at the Prince Faisal ibn Fahd Stadium in Riyadh yesterday.
Al-Shabab of Riyadh host Al-Khaleej of Dammam today and on Friday Al-Ahli of Jeddah entertain Al-Watani of Tabuk at Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium.
The 16-team tournament will be played on a knockout basis with the winners advancing into the quarterfinals for another round of knockout games. The semifinals will be home and away with the winners contesting the final.
Ittihad are the winningest team with seven Crown Prince Cup titles under their belt. Al-Ahli and Al-Hilal of Riyadh each won four championships, Al-Shabab of Riyadh three, and Al-Nasr of Riyadh two.
