RIYADH: Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan discussed efforts being made to achieve a complete cessation of Israeli attacks on Lebanon with the speaker of its parliament Nabih Berri on Thursday.

In a phone call with Berri, Prince Faisal also discussed developments in Lebanon and reiterated the Kingdom’s support for the stability of Lebanon and the strengthening of its state institutions, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

Berri praised the Kingdom’s role and its ongoing efforts to support Lebanon and maintain its security and the security of the region.

He also reaffirmed Lebanon’s commitment to the Taif Agreement and its rejection of anything that threatens the Kingdom.

Israeli and Lebanese ambassadors are preparing for a new meeting in Washington on Thursday evening toward extending a fragile 10-day ceasefire that began last week.

The war between Israel and Hezbollah has left more than 2,400 dead in Lebanon.
