PESHAWAR: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) said on Sunday that it has arrested and repatriated four proclaimed offenders from the UAE wanted in murder and fraud cases that were registered in Pakistan.

The proclaimed offenders were arrested in Abu Dhabi due to close coordination between Interpol Islamabad and Interpol Abu Dhabi, the FIA said in a statement.

The four were wanted in murder and fraud cases by the Punjab Police, the agency said. It added that the suspects were shifted to Lahore airport after they were arrested in Abu Dhabi.

“The suspects were later handed over to the Punjab Police authorities by the FIA Immigration Lahore,” the statement said.

The FIA said cases against the suspects were registered in Pakistan’s Faisalabad and Sargodha cities, and that the FIA National Central Bureau (NCB) Interpol had issued Red Notices for their arrest.

Interpol is an inter-governmental organization with 196 member countries. It facilitates the sharing and accessing of data on crimes and criminals, offering a range of technical and operational support.

Each member country hosts an Interpol National Central Bureau, which connects its national law enforcement with other countries and the general secretariat through a secure global police communications network called I-24/7, according to Interpol’s website.

Pakistan’s national investigation agency and Interpol have also collaborated in the past to bring back criminals who fled the country to escape justice.
