LONDON: CNN has set a new date for its flagship Global Perspectives event in Doha after postponing the region’s first edition of the series amid regional tensions.

The event, which brings together dignitaries, political and business leaders and other figures for discussions on geopolitics, technology, media and culture, had originally been scheduled for April 20 but will now take place on Oct. 29 at the Rosewood Doha.

Media City Qatar is the host partner for the event, which comes as CNN continues to expand its presence in Doha following the launch of a new operation in Qatar last year.

The new date was agreed after a meeting between CNN Worldwide Chairman and CEO Sir Mark Thompson and Media City Qatar Chairman Sheikh Abdulla bin Ali Al Thani.

CNN journalists including Christiane Amanpour, Richard Quest, Becky Anderson and Eleni Giokos will lead discussions with regional and international figures on issues including the Gulf’s growing role in shaping economic power, technological innovation and cultural influence.

Editorial coverage and interviews from the event will run across CNN platforms.

CNN said in January that Global Perspectives was an “important new franchise” and a platform for exploring major issues through different regional lenses.

“Our inaugural summit in November was a fascinating blend of conversations and insights into Africa’s role in a changing world,” Ellana Lee, CNN’s group senior vice president and global head of productions, said in a statement issued at the time.

“This time around, we’ll be using the prism of the Gulf and the Middle East to get into a range of topics of importance and relevance to the region and beyond.”

The Doha edition marks the first time the series will be hosted in the Middle East and Gulf region, following the success of the inaugural Global Perspectives: On Africa summit and a program at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

CNN has said it will also host a Global Perspectives event in Bangkok later this year.

The network’s presence in Doha has grown since 2025 through initiatives including CNN Creators and talent development programs, as well as the launch of the regional Global Perspectives franchise.
